In an increasingly prominent Milan among the European capitals of fashion, design and art, two exhibitions scheduled for November confirm the international and cosmopolitan dimension of the city and the breadth of cultural vision linked to this new profile.
Origins – Visions on African Art and Classic Contemporary Primitive, both dedicated to ancient African Art, represent an absolutely new proposal for Milan. They candidate, for the exceptionality of the works presented, to finally bring clarity to a field, the one of the Primitive Art, that, even though has long received an investiture of classicism by museums and prestigious exhibitions (as well as from auction houses and investors more sensitive to market trends), in Italy has only been given episodic attention.
The exhibition Origins will enjoy the location of Luxury Living in via Durini 11, opening on November 15th (by invitation) – open to the public on the 16th and the 17th. The event will be centred on a selection of works by two collectors who are familiar with the avant-garde choices: Anna Demina and Leinuo Zhang, emblematic citizens of the new Milan who were able to grasp both the contribution of African Art to the Art of the twentieth century and the absolute contemporaneity of its aesthetic language.
The harmony of the works presented with the most refined design is underlined by the setting of the exhibition surrounded by the creations of Fendi Casa. The event is accompanied by a book edited by the Dalton Somaré Gallery.
The Classic Contemporary Primitive exhibition will be presented in the historical premises of the Dalton Somaré Gallery in via Borgonuovo 5, for decades a strong presence on the international market of African Art, from 16th to 30th November.
There are many points of contact between the two exhibitions: from the rigor of the selection of the sculptures on display, to the attention to the intersections with the Modernist Primitivism to, finally, the areas of provenance of the works: Gabon and Cote d’Ivoire above all, that is to say the countries where the great masterpieces of African Art were created.
